Compassion Stress Management: Counterbalance the Intensity of Your Work

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the importance of self-care and its impact on the ability to provide optimal services to client/patient
  • Identify secondary trauma injuries (including compassion fatigue, secondary traumatic stress, vicarious traumatization and burnout), recognize symptoms and warning signs in self and others
  • Learn multiple dimensions of self-care
  • Utilization of a variety of self-assessment tools to create awareness regarding self-care needs
  • Create self-care plan for self and ability to facilitate self-care strategy with others
  • Identify resources; learn mindfulness-based stress reduction tools for resiliency, prevention in self and ability to facilitate these with others

Self-Care is Ethical Practice: Compassion Stress Management for Mental Health Professionals
6 Hour / 3 ethics CEU and 3 general CEU (See Continuing Education Eligibility Below)   (Includes Workbook)

  • Understand the ethical implications for social work practice and self-care
  • Identify secondary trauma injuries (including compassion fatigue, secondary traumatic stress, vicarious traumatization and burnout), recognize symptoms and warning signs in self and others
  • Learn multiple dimensions of self-care
  • Utilization of a variety of self-assessment tools to create awareness regarding self-care needs
  • Create self-care plan for self and ability to facilitate self-care strategy with others
  • Identify resources; learn mindfulness-based stress reduction tools for resiliency, prevention in self and ability to facilitate these with others

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the importance of self-care and its impact on the ability to provide optimal services to client/patient
  • Identify secondary trauma injuries (including compassion fatigue, secondary traumatic stress, vicarious traumatization and burnout), recognize symptoms and warning signs in self and others
  • Learn multiple dimensions of self-care
  • Utilization of self-assessment tool to create awareness in participant regarding compassion fatigue, burnout and compassion satisfaction
  • Learn mindfulness-based stress reduction tools to increase resiliency and reduce compassion stress

Introductory Presentation of Compassion Stress Management
1.5 Hour / CEU (See Continuing Education Eligibility Below)

Course Summary:

  • Participants learn how to identify compassion fatigue and similar secondary trauma injuries
  • An overview of self-care techniques is discussed
  • Attendees have the option of participation in a rejuvenating guided meditation

Introduction to  Mindfulness Meditation
2 or 3 Hour (continuing education for social workers pending approval)

Course Summary:

  • Learn the basics of mindfulness meditation:  What it is, how to do it and why it is beneficial
  • Practice mindfulness meditation with several experiential exercises
  • Suggestions for how to begin a meditation practice will be offered

Mindfulness Meditation Intensive
6 Hour (continuing education for social workers pending approval)

Course Summary:

  • Learn the basics of mindfulness meditation:  What it is, how to do it and why it is beneficial
  • Suggestions for how to begin a meditation practice will be offered
  • Participate in multiple mindfulness meditation exercises intended to cultivate relaxation, mind-body connection, clarity, awareness and introspection
  • Meditations include breathwork, guided imagery, gentle movement, awareness and healing exercises

Continuing Education

All courses approved by Kansas Behavioral Science Regulatory Board (KBSRB) for social work continuing education:  CE Provider #13-003.  Check with your state licensing board to determine reciprocity.

Self-Care Specialists is approved as a provider of continuing nursing education by the Kansas State Board of Nursing.  Compassion Stress Management is approved for 6 contact hours applicable for APRN, RN, LPN  relicensure.  Kansas State Board of Nursing Provider Number:  SP-1401-0318.  Check with your state licensing board to determine reciprocity.
