Inner-Work is a Responsibility

I often wonder why it is that people avoid doing their inner-work when it is the path to peace, happiness and freedom. The things we seek outside of ourselves lie within ourselves. So often people avoid doing the inner-work because it is work. It's a different kind of work... it requires taking full responsibility for one's self, looking at things about ourselves that may be difficult to accept, feeling emotions that can be uncomfortable and making positive changes. This can be done by examining our beliefs, healing past hurts and trauma.

There are a variety of ways this can be done, so finding what works well for you is essential. Your needs may change at different times, depending on what you are working through. I highly suggest approaches designed to connect your mind and body including somatic work, body-centered psychotherapy, inner-child healing, energy psychology, and shadow work. Modalities that repattern conscious and subconscious beliefs including Psych-K and Emotional Freedom Technique are also recommended. Body work such as massage, myofascial tissue release and Rolfing can be helpful to get the old emotional energies our of the body. Mind-body exercise including somatic yoga is also encouraged. When choosing practitioners it is advisable to seek out those who are very committed to their inner-work as it's been said that one can only take someone else as deep as they are willing to go within themselves.

Whether or not we do our inner-work affects everyone we come into contact with in either a positive or negative way. As a result, working through personal negative patterns, emotions, baggage and traumas can be considered a social responsibility. It is from the best version of ourselves that we can most deeply impact other people and the world. Our higher self is the greatest gift we have to offer ourselves and anyone else. When we do the work on the inside it transforms ourselves, our relationships and our lives. Whatever it is you seek... peace, happiness, freedom, love, respect, compassion, abundance, empowerment, health, self-esteem, purpose... it begins within you and ripples outward.
